Dasha’s Powder Room

Interior Design - Architecture - Construction

People often tell me they have a project in mind, but have no idea how or where to begin. A small update or maybe even a little remodeling project can be a daunting start if one doesn’t know what to expect. It’s natural to want to know how much something will cost, and how long it will take. Most importantly, customizing your home should be a fun and enjoyable experience! I mean why else would one want to spend the money, have construction crews invading their daily space - for some sort of cruel and unusual punishment, I think Not! People want to enjoy the process and feel great about the end result! Simple :)

That said, I believe a successful project begins with the design. Ideally, the first and one of the more enjoyable steps toward realizing your home improvement. However this usually trips people up as they don’t know a designer, or how much one will cost and what is the process like? Will a designer understand your vision and what happens if they don’t? So, what if we removed the uncertainty and inserted clarity?

My solution was to offer a $20 design holiday gift package that included a design consultation (1 on 1) and 3 concept drawings including estimated costs. Basically for $20 I was giving 1 week of design work toward any home improvement project.

Funny enough, during a little self warranted TLC, my masseuse signed his wife up for the design package immediately after our session. The project was to update an old half bath that his wife had been obsessing over for years but never knew where to begin.

After the holidays I visited the house took measurements and photos and began the process. Based on our consultation I worked out 3 very different ideas, each based on inspirations the client provided. The chosen option was revised based on additional feedback and we settled on a construction schedule to start late spring.

The playfulness of the design came about in conversations and shared images. In addition to drawings I produced story boards of the fixtures, finishes and decor to help clarify how the final design would look and feel. It was such an enjoyable process to help transform uncertainty into clarity.
